SwitchMon®Continuous monitoring for switchgear & critical power, ready for NFPA 70B & FM
SwitchMon is InfraSensing's product line for the gray space of mission critical infrastructure: continuous thermography, condition and environment monitoring of switchgear, transformers and critical power, built to support NFPA 70B electrical maintenance programs and FM loss prevention practice.
The first layer is Continuous Thermography Monitoring (CTM) using SwitchMon's patented thermography sensors.
Continuous Condition Monitoring (CCM) checks non stop the conditions inside the critical power equipment.
Continuous Environment Monitoring (CEM) monitors the environment in which those critical power systems operate.

Continuous Thermography Monitoring (CTM)24x7 monitoring by reusing existing IR windows
Mounting of SwitchMon thermography sensors onto IR windows for continuous thermography monitoring, eliminating downtime and recertification
patented
Continuous thermal monitoring helps prevent equipment failures by automatically tracking the temperature of electrical components and spotting abnormal heat signatures that may signal underlying issues. Normally, these components operate within a specific temperature range. A deviation exceeding 10°C (18°F) between phases often indicates deeper problems, such as voltage imbalances, which can escalate into hazardous arc flashes.
SwitchMon addresses these risks with a patented method that mounts thermography sensors onto existing IR windows, eliminating downtime and recertification. A full thermal image with up to 19,200 measurement points replaces the single reading of a spot probe, and permanent coverage solves the pitfall of periodic inspections, where an issue arising after the last check goes undetected until the next one: the 364 day blind spot. With contactless detection in real time, irregularities trigger immediate corrective action before minor problems become major failures.
By identifying developing faults early, SwitchMon improves the safety, reliability and service life of critical electrical systems.

Continuous Environment Monitoring (CEM)
Monitoring the operating environment is part of a sound electrical maintenance program under NFPA 70B, and crucial for anyone operating switchgear. Water and electricity don't mix, creating immediate hazards. Dust gradually threatens electrical equipment, while vibrations can loosen connectors, causing overheating and fire risks. Corrosion is particularly harmful to copper components. Our corrosion sensor detects corrosion levels in real time.
For temperature, humidity, dust, and water ingress, our plug & play sensors provide comprehensive monitoring. Environmental failures, when undetected and unaddressed, lead to power equipment failure.
Continuous environmental monitoring ensures the reliability, safety, and longevity of electrical systems, preventing minor issues from escalating into major problems.

Independently certified, tested and patented
Our sensors are UL evaluated under the UL 61010 electrical safety standard. Our base units and hubs are UL 62368-1 Listed.
Our sensors have undergone independent reliability testing by one of the world's largest switchgear and power manufacturers: first a comprehensive 10 year reliability test, then an even more stringent 15 year reliability test, both passed. These independent evaluations underscore the long term durability and dependability of our sensors in monitoring electrical equipment.
The technology is protected by 3 granted patents: US 10,455,166 (thermography sensor) · US 12,253,416 (daisy chained thermography sensors) · US 12,292,334 (IR window mounted thermography sensor).

NFPA 70B & FM Data Sheet 5-19
For more than 40 years NFPA 70B was a recommended practice for electrical equipment maintenance: good advice, formally optional. In 2023 it became the Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance, written in requirement language. The standard requires an Electrical Maintenance Program with documented inspections and corrective actions, permits permanently installed continuous thermal monitoring devices (§7.4.5) and enables continuous and predictive monitoring (§9.1.1.1 and §9.1.1.2).
An annual infrared survey is a snapshot: a fault arising the day after an inspection stays unnoticed until the next one. Continuous monitoring closes that gap, detecting developing faults immediately, and automatic trending turns a periodic inspection obligation into documented 24x7 evidence.
FM Global's Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 5-19, Switchgear and Circuit Breakers, approaches the same hazard from the insurer's perspective: continuous thermal monitoring systems are recommended (§3.2.2), and documented findings, trends and corrective actions are required.
SwitchMon® supports NFPA 70B electrical maintenance programs. Permanently installed continuous temperature monitoring devices can be used within the standard's thermography and inspection framework, subject to the applicable edition and the facility's maintenance program. A monitoring product does not by itself make a facility compliant.
